Ingredients

Imperial | Metric | USA
  • 125g butter
  • 55g caster suger
  • 180g plain flour

Directions

Step 1

Butter and sugar in a bowl

Beat the butter and sugar together until it is pale.

Step 2

Shortbread mixture in a bowl

Stir in the flour to get a smooth paste.

Step 3

Rolled out shortbread mixture with a cookie cutter

Roll on a surface to a thickness of 1cm. Then use a cookie cutter to make the biscuit.

Step 4

Shortbread on a baking tray

Put on a baking sheet and sprinkle some extra casting sugar on top. Then place them in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Step 5

Shortbread on a wire rack

In a pre-heated oven at 190°C / 370ºF / gas mark 5 bake them for 15-20 minutes. Check they are done by turning one over to make sure it is flat and golden brown. Place them on a wire rack to cool down.
