Ingredients

Imperial | Metric | USA
  • 1 potato (1 per person)
  • olive oil

Optional

  • salt
  • pepper

Directions

Step 1

Potato cut in half

You can peel the skin off but I prefer to leave it on. Start by cutting the potato in half.

Step 2

Potato being sliced

Now take one half and cut it into the desired thickness.

Step 3

Oval shaped slices of a potato

Do the same with the other half so you are left with oval shaped slices.

Step 4

Potato cut into chips

Now cut these up so you are left with chips.

Step 5

Place your chips into a pan of cold water to remove the starch. Leave them for a couple of minutes.

Step 6

Chips seasoned with salt and pepper and coated in olive oil

Drain the water and then dry the chips with kitchen paper. Now place the dried chips in a bowl and add olive oil, salt and pepper. Make sure to coat them well in oil so that they will brown nicely in the oven. Mix with your hands to ensure an even coating of salt and pepper.

Step 7

Put them in the oven at 200°C / 390ºF / gas mark 6 turning them over after 15 minutes to ensure an even cook. Check on them after 30 minutes and allow anything up to 40 minutes for the perfect oven chips.
