Ingredients
- 2 litres boxed red wine (I used shiraz)
- ½ litre orange juice
- 1 apple
- 2 oranges
- 1 lime
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 3 whole star anise
- 1 vanilla pod
- 5 cloves
Directions
Step 1
Start up by roughly cutting the apples, limes and oranges in quarter slices.
Step 2
Pop the apples, oranges and limes into a pot with the vanilla pod, star anise, cloves and cinnamon sticks and just a ½ a cup of the orange juice.
(I chose to use the orange juice instead of the sugar since it is a healthier option and adds a lovely tang to the drink)
Step 3
Add in a cup of the wine with the cinnamon and nutmeg powder as well and let all the juices of the apples, orange and lime pop out.
Step 4
Once the mixture appears a little thicker, add the rest of the orange juice and the wine and let it simmer away until its served warm.
Step 5
(P.S. If you want you can use bottled wine too, but I prefer the boxed wine.. since all the flavor mainly comes in from the spices and fruits.. so hold on to those few extra bucks and buy a present or something with it :) )
