Ingredients

Imperial | Metric | USA
  • 80g brown sugar
  • 100g cooking butter
  • 250g oats
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup

Optional

  • 100g cranberries

Directions

Step 1

Paste formed by sugar and butter

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over a low heat. Once melted add the brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of golden syrup. Stir until you have a brown paste.

Step 2

Oats mixed with brown sugar and butter

Gradually add the oats making sure to cover them all with the paste. Now add the cranberries or other fruit of your choice mixing it in well.

Step 3

Flapjack mixture in a baking tray

Spread the mixture into a baking dish. You can put it directly on a non stick baking tray or a greased baking tray but it is harder to push the mixture together to give a firmer flapjack.

Step 4

Flapjack mixture fresh from the oven

Place the baking tray onto the middle shelf of a preheated oven for 15 minutes at 220°C / 430ºF / gas mark 7. Take out of the oven when the mixture starts turning golden brown.

Step 5

Leave the flapjacks for a couple of hours to cool completely. This will give them time to harden some more. Store them in an air tight container for up to a week.
