Ingredients

Imperial | Metric | USA
  • 300g plain flour
  • 175g unrefined brown sugar
  • 200g unsalted butter (cubed and at room temperature)
  • 450g apples
  • 50g unrefined brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 pinch of ground cinnamon

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

Peel and cut the apples into 1cm cubes

Step 2

Apple crumble.

Place the flour and sugar into a large bowl and mix well, while adding a few cubes of butter at a time.

Keep mixing with your hands rubbing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Step 3

Apples prepared for the apple crumble filling.

Place the apples into a large bowl.

Add the sugar, flour and cinnamon.

Mix well.

Step 4

Apple crumble ready to be put into the oven.

Butter a 24cm/9in oven-proof dish.

Spread the mixture into the base, then add the crumble mixture on top. Ensure the crumble covers the entire base and is packed well at the edges, so that the apples are not exposed.

Step 5

Bake in the oven for 40 minutes until the crumble is browned.
